EQUILATERAL THERAPY
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitizing and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based practice for the treatment of PTSD, trauma, and other hyper-arousal states. In the setting of having an equine partner the feedback to the participant is more immediate and fosters more rapid integration of the self-regulating benefits of EMDR. As the name implies the equine partner is side-by-side with the participant in identifying and overcoming states of physiologic arousal.
EQUINE ASSISTED PSYCHOTHERAPY
Individual, couples, small group, or family units meet with the two facilitators and selected equine partners (from one to several). These sessions are designed to address issues such as psychological, sexual and emotional traumas, psychological struggles such as anxiety, PTSD or depression, interpersonal conflict, concerns with self-esteem, etc… in a safe environment at a self-determined rate. All activities occur from the ground, with the horses as partners who assist in demonstrating the conflict or resolution, providing physical responses to the internal states of the participant, and creating opportunities to experience full emotions.
EQUINE ASSISTED LEARNING
Individuals and groups often would like to build group cohesiveness, improve communication, or identify barriers to functioning. Various team-building activities are designed to assist the participants working on tasks with the horses to experience maladaptive and effective ways to work together. Often these experiences involve laughter and tears as set expectations are changed by the experience of participating in group challenges.

"There is something about the outside of a horse
that is good for the inside of a person"-UNKNOWN
Horses have the distinct ability to understand and reflect elements of ourselves that we may not be fully aware exists. They can do this because of their naturally evolved ability to read non-verbal cues. Being that they are prey animals, horses must rely on their ability to communicate non-verbally with each other in order to survive. Without this fine-tuned ability horses would likely give up their location to predators. They are much more adept at reading us than we often are at reading ourselves. Their gentle strength provides comfort, and their emotional intelligence provides insight. For these reasons horses can guide our growth and self-reflection in a way that is entirely unique to the equine experience.
