All sessions are governed by the health information privacy access act (HIPAA) for the content or notes from any session. Given that groups participate, agreements about discussion of the experiences must be clarified before the start of the sessions. All sessions are held at horse care facilities, which may entail unrelated personnel to be in the vicinity caring for animals, animal doctors or farriers for emergency related activities, so unexpected arrival of different people can occur, though sessions are generally scheduled in a manner to minimize the possibility of such interactions out of consideration for the importance of uninterrupted psychological space for the participants. Informed consent to participate in treatment must be recorded.
